The Federal
Triangle Chapter
Scholarships |
The Federal Triangle Chapter created a Scholarship fund
in 1999. The purpose of the Scholarship fund is to assist members who have
been members for at least a year, are active in their membership (e.g.,
participate on committees, attend meetings and events at the chapter, region,
and/or national level, etc.) t to attend training (FEW and career development
related) that their agency cannot fund. Specific requirements and criteria
are:
- the member making the request must be a member of FEW
for at least one year before s/he will be considered eligible to apply for a
scholarship;
- the Chapter member making the request is current with
both National FEW and the Chapter (e.g., dues are paid in full);
- the funding is available through the Scholarship fund
(as determined by the Chapter treasurer);
- the Chapter member making the request is active
within the life of the Chapter (note: the Chapter Executive Committee defines
"active participation" to include:
- attends at least four chapter meetings in a year's
time (August to July);
- participates in at least two chapter fundraisers in
a year's time;
- participates in at least one social event at the
chapter, regional, or national level in a year's time;
- serves as a Chair of a committee or as a member of
a committee for at least one year (note: the participation must be verified
by a member of the Executive Committee);
- members who qualify for the scholarships are not
restricted in the type of training they wish to apply the scholarship against
because the member may be seeking to get into a new career field and
management is not being supportive;
- members may only apply for a FEW-related scholarship
once every three (3) years and a career-development scholarship once every
three (3) years. For example, if an eligible chapter member is awarded a
scholarship to attend the National Training Program in 2003, the member would
not be eligible to apply for another FEW-related scholarship until 2006.
However, the member could apply for a career-development scholarship in 2003,
2004, or 2005 and would not be eligible to apply for another
career-development scholarship until 2006, 2007 o 2008, depending on the year
awarded. (Note: If the scholarship is awarded, the individual must
seek managerial approval to take annual or training leave. If the
managerial approval is denied, the scholarship monies will not be awarded.);
and,
- the Chapter member making the request will provide a
copy of the Certificate of Completion or other appropriate proof of attendance
to the Chapter Treasurer and Chair of the Scholarship Committee upon
completion of the course(s).
If the member is approved for the scholarship, the
Chapter will pay:
- up to $250 for tuition,
- up to $300 for transportation, and,
- up to $50 for lodging (Note: the member must be
willing to share a room whenever possible. The maximum amount of
scholarship funding awarded to a member in any given year will not exceed
$1,200)
